Organic Hibiscus Tea Bags — Caffeine-Free | Egyptian Hibiscus sabdariffa

Our Organic Hibiscus Tea Bags are made from a single ingredient: whole dried flowers of Hibiscus sabdariffa, sourced from Egypt — the origin prized worldwide for its depth of colour, its intensely tart flavour, and the quality of its harvest. Known as karkade across the Middle East and North Africa, hibiscus tea has been drunk for thousands of years. Each temple bag contains 2g of pure hibiscus flower — deep ruby-red, sharply floral, and completely caffeine-free. Soil Association certified organic and packaged entirely plastic-free.

About the hibiscus

Egyptian hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is widely regarded as the finest growing origin for tea — the climate and growing conditions of the Nile Valley produce flowers with an unusually high concentration of the deep red calyces that give the tea its colour, its tartness, and its character. The variety is sometimes called roselle, and the tea it produces is known by many names: karkade in Egypt and across the Arab world, bissap in West Africa, sorrel in the Caribbean. Whichever name you know it by, the flavour profile is unmistakable — vivid, tart, cranberry-like, and deeply refreshing whether served hot or cold.

Why choose ours?

  • Egyptian Hibiscus sabdariffa — the finest origin. We source from Egypt specifically for the depth of colour and intensity of flavour it produces. Not all hibiscus tea is the same; origin matters.
  • Soil Association certified organic. Every batch independently audited to the UK’s most rigorous organic standard.
  • 2g per temple bag. A generous fill weight that brews a full-bodied, genuinely tart cup — not a pale imitation.
  • Naturally caffeine-free. Hibiscus sabdariffa contains no caffeine. Suitable any time of day, including evenings.
  • Wonderful hot or iced. One of the very few herbal teas that is as good cold as it is hot — the tartness and colour make it an exceptional iced drink.
  • Plastic-free temples and packaging. PLA biodegradable filter mesh in the temple bags; 100% paper outer pouch with no foil lining. Kerbside recyclable.
  • Packed in the UK by our small family team. Blended and pouched in Leicestershire, not at a large contract facility.
  • Vegan and vegetarian. No animal-derived ingredients anywhere in the product or packaging.

How to brew — hot or iced

Hot: Place one temple bag in a mug and pour over freshly boiled water. Steep for 5–7 minutes for a rich, deeply coloured infusion. Add a small amount of honey to soften the tartness, or a slice of lemon to sharpen it. Leave the bag in longer for a more intense brew.

Iced hibiscus tea: Always start with boiling water — place one or two temple bags in a heatproof jug and pour over freshly boiled water. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then pour directly over a glass filled with ice. The rapid chilling locks in the vivid colour and produces an exceptionally refreshing cold drink. Add honey, mint, or a squeeze of lime to taste.

Each temple bag can be resteeped once for a lighter second cup.

Ingredients

Organic Hibiscus Flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa) — 100%

Soil Association Organic certified. EU Organic certified.

Allergen information: May contain traces of nuts. Hibiscus sabdariffa is commonly grown in close proximity to peanut crops — in some growing regions the two plants share the same fields or rotate on the same land — which means trace nut cross-contamination in the raw material cannot be fully excluded.

Frequently asked questions

What is karkade tea?

Karkade is the Egyptian and Arabic name for hibiscus tea — an infusion made from the dried flowers of Hibiscus sabdariffa. It has been drunk across the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caribbean for centuries, known by different names in different regions: karkade, bissap, sorrel, roselle tea. Our hibiscus tea bags use Egyptian-sourced Hibiscus sabdariffa — the origin most associated with the traditional karkade preparation.

What does hibiscus tea taste like?

Tart, vivid, and deeply floral — with a flavour profile close to cranberry or tart cherry. The tartness comes from naturally occurring acids in the hibiscus calyces, and the colour is an intense ruby-red. It is refreshing and thirst-quenching whether served hot or iced. A touch of honey rounds the sharpness without losing the character.

Is hibiscus tea caffeine-free?

Yes. Hibiscus sabdariffa contains no caffeine. This tea is naturally caffeine-free and suitable at any time of day, including before bed.

How do I make iced hibiscus tea?

Always start with boiling water — pour freshly boiled water over one or two temple bags in a heatproof jug. Steep for 5 minutes, then pour directly over a glass full of ice. The temperature drop locks in the colour and produces a brilliantly vibrant iced drink. Add honey, lime, or fresh mint to taste. For cold brew, place 2 bags in cold water and refrigerate overnight — the colour and flavour develop slowly for a softer, less tart result.

Where does your hibiscus come from?

We source our hibiscus from Egypt — specifically Hibiscus sabdariffa from the Nile Valley region, widely regarded as the finest growing origin for hibiscus tea. In the event of seasonal shortages we may source from Thailand, which we would communicate clearly.

Is hibiscus tea good for you?

Hibiscus has a long history of traditional use across many cultures and is one of the more widely studied herbal botanicals. We do not make specific health claims — if you are looking for guidance on hibiscus for a particular health purpose, a GP or qualified herbalist is the right person to advise.

How many hibiscus tea bags should I use per day?

One temple bag per cup is the standard. Most people drink one to three cups per day. There is no regulated daily limit for hibiscus as a food ingredient; if you have any health concerns or are taking medication, consult your GP.

Are the temple bags plastic-free?

Yes. The temple bags use a PLA (polylactic acid) biodegradable filter mesh — not the nylon or polypropylene used in many pyramid-style bags. The outer pouch is 100% paper with no foil lining and no plastic film. Kerbside recyclable. No plastic anywhere in the product or packaging.

Where is this hibiscus tea made?

The hibiscus flowers are sourced from Egypt. They are then packed into temple bags and pouched by our small family team in Leicestershire, UK.

How should I store hibiscus tea bags?

Keep in the sealed paper pouch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong smells. Once opened, fold the top of the pouch down firmly. Hibiscus is naturally low in moisture and stores well; just keep it away from heat and humidity.

Organic hibiscus tea praised for its refreshing, tart flavor and health benefits. Customers said it "helps lower blood pressure" and offers "gorgeous flavor." Can be enjoyed hot or cold. Some found the taste "tart" or "an acquired taste." Praised for quality, fast delivery, and eco-friendly packaging. One noted teabags don't compost well.

My favourite brand of hibiscus tea

My favourite brand of hibiscus tea. I’m a newcomer to this flavour and only on my second pack (50s). I use it to flavour my kombucha and kefir also soak my chia and pysillium. Arrived quickly very well wrapped I’ll be back. I prefer buying in 50s as just enough for me a good strong flavour not flowery , can’t explain , gorgeousness in a bag. Thank you

The intensity of flavour is quite remarkable when

The intensity of flavour is quite remarkable when compared with most commercial brands of fruit or berry teas. Although I haven't noticed any reduction in my blood pressure (yet), I'll carry on drinking just for the pleasure.

Very good service

Very good service. Items well packaged, prompt delivery.
The product has helped to bring down my high blood pressure and after a few days of drinking the product my very heavy, prolonged nose bleeds stopped completely. I prefer to have a natural solution rather than traditional medicines for this problem.
I tried other products the same from other suppliers, this one I preferred. I will continue to use it.
Thank you.

Enjoyable taste

I tried these after reading hibiscus might be useful for lowering blood pressure. I didn't expect very much but it seems to be very effective. The taste is also nice, not too sweet and I quite like to drink it cold too as a refreshing drink.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review — we really appreciate it

We’re delighted to hear you’re enjoying the taste of the hibiscus tea, and it’s lovely to know you’ve found it refreshing both hot and cold. Many people enjoy hibiscus for its naturally tangy flavour, and it’s especially popular as a chilled drink.

We do just want to gently clarify, in line with UK regulations, that while hibiscus has a long history of traditional use and is often talked about in relation to wellbeing, we’re not able to say it can lower blood pressure or have specific health effects. Everyone’s body responds differently, and it’s always best to speak with a healthcare professional if you’re managing blood pressure or taking medication.

Thank you again for your support and for sharing your experience — it really means a lot to a small, family-run business like ours. If you ever fancy trying it blended with other teas or would like serving ideas, please feel free to reach out anytime
Kind wishes,

Was recommended them for slightly elevated high

Was recommended them for slightly elevated high blood pressure and have found they have helped. Also very pleasant to take and much better than tablets from the doctor.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience — we really appreciate you taking the time to leave a review

We’re really glad to hear you’re enjoying the taste of the hibiscus tea and finding it pleasant to include in your daily routine. Many people love it as a gentle, flavourful drink, especially compared to tablets.

Just to gently clarify, in line with UK regulations, we can’t say that hibiscus tea can help with high blood pressure or replace prescribed medication. Hibiscus has a long history of traditional use and is widely enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle, but everyone’s body is different. If you’ve been advised to manage blood pressure, it’s always important to continue following guidance from your GP or healthcare professional.

Thank you again for your kind words and for supporting our small, family-run business — it truly means a lot to us. Please feel free to get in touch anytime if you have questions or would like ideas for enjoying your tea in different ways

Kind wishes,

Are the hibiscus tea bags plastic free?

The Natural Health Market

Hello,
Yes, completely plastic-free. The temple bags use a PLA (polylactic acid) biodegradable filter mesh rather than the nylon or polypropylene you'll find in most pyramid-style bags, and the outer pouch is 100% paper with no foil lining or plastic film — kerbside recyclable.
Do let me know if you have any other questions.
