What Is Spirulina Powder?

Growing naturally in tropical climates Spirulina is cyanobacterium (blue-green algae) and has been used as food for hundreds of years, some of the earliest known cultivators were the Aztec's, Mesoamericans grew spirulina in Lake Texcoco. It is also known to have been cultivated by ancient civilisations in Chad as well as throughout Asia.

Positive Nutritional Content of Spirulina

Containing about 60% protein, and all essential amino acids it is also a concentrated source of a wide range of vitamins and minerals that are essential for a healthy immune system and general everyday nutrition.

As well as being a concentrated source of protein spirulina also contains the minerals calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus and zinc in significant quantities, and the vitamins A, C, E and vitamin K making it an excellent all-around nutrition supplement.

Vitamin B Complex

Spirulina is a rich source of B-complex vitamins, especially thiamin and riboflavin which play a major role in helping the body to convert food efficiently into fuel and promoting healthy skin and cognitive functionality.

B-complex vitamins keep the body healthy by fighting free radicals; free radicals are mutated cells which left can develop into more serious illnesses.

Spirulina Origins

Our spirulina is grown in the Far East of China, away from industrial pollution close to the Mongolian border, we have had relations with our supplier for nearly 4 years and never had any quality issues, upon arrival in the UK we send samples of each shipment for laboratory testing in Germany where it is tested for over 500 known pesticides and heavy metals and never had a problem.

Safety Risks Associated With Spirulina

As with all protein-rich foods, spirulina contains the essential amino acid phenylalanine, this should be avoided by people who are known to have phenylketonuria, this is a rare genetic disorder and Spirulina should be avoided by those who carry it. Spirulina contains naturally occurring sulphites.
