Organic Psyllium Husk Powder — Fine Grade | Ideal for Baking & Daily Fibre
Our Organic Psyllium Husk Powder is made from the husks of Plantago ovata seeds — the plant also known as isabgol or ispaghula — sourced from certified organic farms in India and packed in small batches at our family-run facility in Leicestershire. This is a fine-milled powder, ground to a 60-mesh grade that dissolves smoothly and performs exceptionally well in baking. Soil Association-certified organic, single-ingredient, nothing added.
About psyllium husk powder
Plantago ovata — known as isabgol in India and ispaghula in pharmacy — is a plant native to the Indian subcontinent and one of the world's most widely used natural fibre sources. The husk is the thin, papery outer layer of the seed, and psyllium powder is made from it. India is the world's leading producer and exporter of psyllium husk, accounting for the majority of global supply — the growing conditions in Gujarat, in particular, produce husk with consistently high fibre content and swell volume. Our powder is finely milled to a 60-mesh grade, giving it a smooth, even texture that blends more cleanly than coarser whole or flaked husk.
Which size is right for you?
| Size | Approximate servings | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 50g | ~10 servings | Trying for the first time |
| 100g | ~20 servings | Regular use / 3–4 weeks |
| 200g | ~40 servings | Daily use / 6–8 weeks |
| 400g | ~80 servings | Regular daily use / best value |
| 800g | ~160 servings | Baking and bulk use |
Ways to use it
- In water or juice — a quick daily fibre boost mixed into any cold drink
- In smoothies — adds body and fibre without affecting flavour
- In baking — use as a binder, egg substitute, or texture improver in breads, flatbreads, and crackers; the fine powder grade blends more evenly than whole husk
- In keto and low-carb recipes — a widely used ingredient in keto baking to improve dough structure without adding carbohydrates
- In porridge or yoghurt — stir in a teaspoon to add fibre to a meal without changing the flavour
- As a thickener — use sparingly in soups or sauces where extra body is needed
Why choose ours?
- Soil Association certified organic. Sourced from certified organic farms in India — independently audited to the UK's most rigorous organic standard.
- Fine 60-mesh powder grade. Finer than whole husk or flaked husk — blends more evenly in drinks and performs better in baking recipes that need a smooth, consistent texture.
- Independently tested. Each batch is tested for heavy metals and ethylene oxide (ETO) residues — both confirmed not detectable in our most recent testing.
- Single ingredient, nothing added. 100% psyllium husk powder — no fillers, no binders, no flowing agents.
- Non-GMO and non-irradiated. Clean sourcing throughout.
- Packed in small batches in Leicestershire. By our family-run team in a SALSA-approved facility.
How to mix psyllium husk powder in a drink
Psyllium husk powder absorbs liquid very quickly and will clump if added directly to a full glass of water. For a smooth result, follow this method:
- Add one teaspoon (approximately 5g) of psyllium husk powder to an empty glass first.
- Add a small splash of water — just enough to wet the powder — and stir or swirl quickly to form an even paste.
- Once the paste is smooth with no dry lumps, fill the glass with 250–300ml of water, juice, or your drink of choice.
- Stir well and drink immediately — psyllium thickens quickly as it absorbs liquid.
- Follow with a second glass of water.
A typical serving is one to two teaspoons (5–10g) per day. If you're new to psyllium or increasing your fibre intake generally, start with a smaller serving of around 5g and build up gradually over several days rather than jumping straight to the maximum — taking on too much fibre too quickly without enough water alongside it is the most common reason people find psyllium uncomfortable. Take separately from any prescription medication as psyllium may affect absorption — allow at least two hours between psyllium and any medication.

Packaging
Supplied in a kraft paper pouch with a PE inner lining to preserve freshness. The pouch can be recycled via supermarket soft-plastic collection points (widely available in major UK supermarkets). Kerbside recyclability for this pouch format is expected from mid-2027 as UK kerbside collection infrastructure catches up with mono-material flexible packaging. We're working toward fully kerbside recyclable packaging across our entire range.
Frequently asked questions
What is psyllium husk powder — and what is isabgol?
Psyllium husk powder is made from the outer husks of Plantago ovata seeds. In India and across South Asia, it is commonly called isabgol or ispaghula — these are different names for the same plant and the same ingredient. Our powder is sourced from India, where psyllium has been cultivated and used traditionally for generations.
What is the difference between psyllium husk powder and whole psyllium husk?
Whole psyllium husk is the complete outer husk of the seed, typically coarser and flakier. Psyllium husk powder is the same material ground into a fine powder. The powder mixes more smoothly in drinks and performs better in baking recipes — particularly where a consistent, even texture matters, such as in breads or flatbreads.
What is the best way to take psyllium husk powder?
Mix the powder into a paste first before adding a full glass of liquid — this prevents clumping. Add one teaspoon to an empty glass, add a small splash of water, stir to a smooth paste, then fill the glass with 250–300ml of water or juice and drink immediately. See the full method above. Never swallow psyllium dry.
Can I use psyllium husk powder for baking?
Yes — it is widely used in baking as a binder and structure agent. A small amount (typically 1–2 teaspoons per loaf) helps hold dough together, improves texture, and prevents crumbling. The fine powder grade works better than coarser whole husk in most baking applications.
What is "fibermaxxing," and does this fit into it?
Fibermaxxing is the name that's grown up online for deliberately increasing daily fibre intake, and psyllium husk is one of the ingredients people reach for to do it. It's a single-ingredient, high-fibre food, so it fits that purpose in the most literal sense — but we'd rather you did it sensibly than quickly. The most common issue people report isn't from psyllium itself; it's from adding too much too fast without enough water. If you're increasing your fibre intake as part of this, our suggestion above — start small, build up gradually, drink plenty of water — applies more than ever. For anything beyond general dietary guidance, speak to your GP or a dietitian.
Is psyllium husk powder gluten-free?
Psyllium husk is a naturally gluten-free botanical ingredient, and we do not handle gluten on our premises. However, we do not sell this product with a gluten-free claim. As a small producer, we do not independently test our packaged product for gluten, and we cannot rule out trace contamination at any point in the supply chain. If you have coeliac disease or a serious gluten intolerance, please seek advice from your GP or dietitian before use.
Is psyllium husk powder good for you?
Psyllium husk is a natural source of dietary fibre and has a long history of traditional use across many cultures. We do not make specific health claims — if you are looking for guidance on whether psyllium is right for your circumstances, a GP or qualified nutritional therapist is the best person to advise.
When should I take psyllium husk?
It can be taken at any time of day — before a meal, with a meal, or between meals. Many people take it in the morning. The most important thing is always to take it with a generous amount of water and to keep well hydrated throughout the day.
Is it safe to take psyllium husk every day?
Psyllium husk has been used daily as a fibre supplement for many generations and is generally considered well tolerated. If you have a pre-existing digestive condition, are taking prescription medication, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your GP before use. Always take with sufficient water and do not take dry.
Has this psyllium been tested for heavy metals and ETO?
Yes. We test each batch for heavy metals and for ethylene oxide (ETO) residues. Our most recent testing confirmed that neither is detectable above the limit of quantification and that the product fully complies with EU Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 on maximum residue levels.
Do you also sell psyllium husk in capsules?
Yes — our Organic Psyllium Husk Capsules contain the same organic psyllium husk in a measured 650mg-per-capsule format, for anyone who'd rather not mix a powder.
How should I store psyllium husk powder?
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the pouch sealed tightly between uses. Avoid humid environments. Best used within six months of opening.
Also in our psyllium range
Prefer a measured daily dose without mixing? Our Organic Psyllium Husk Capsules 650mg contain the same organic psyllium husk in a convenient vegan capsule — available in 60-, 90-, or 120-capsule packs.

Customers praised this organic powder for digestive health, describing it as "a game changer" for bowel regulation, IBS, and bloating. Many use it for baking gluten-free bread. While most found it effective, one customer disliked the taste and found it unhelpful. Mixing can be challenging and requires technique, but customers valued the organic certification and competitive pricing.

Excellent in my gluten-free homemade bread. The Husk powder adds taste & texture. This is the first time I have had success like this in 35 years of bread making. The loaf last for a week in an airtight container. Love this product.
Thank you so much for your fantastic review — and for sharing the picture of your beautiful bread! It looks absolutely delicious, and we’re over the moon to hear the psyllium husk powder has made such a difference in your baking.
Knowing it’s helped bring you success after 35 years of bread-making is such a joy for us to hear — this kind of feedback truly makes our day. Thank you for your trust and support, and we’re so happy our product has earned a place in your kitchen!
Warmest wishes, and thank you for your continued support.
I wanted to buy Psyllium Husk Powder both locally and good value so chose this company in Leicestershire. I have used the product to regulate my system after a big operation and to avoid straining. I have found whisking it gradually with a stick mixer and adding a little fruit squash met my needs well. This company gave me good advice about starting it on the packet, got it to me in good time and thoughtfully wrapped. Very pleased.
I’ve been buying psyllium husk for 6 months after being recommended it by other dog lenders for our dog who sufffers from gastrointestinal issues. She previously had daily diarrhea and this has helped firm her stools up so much. Orders are always quickly delivered.
Excellent product that we’ve used for a few years. Really great customer service too.
Hi Alison, thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We're delighted to hear you've enjoyed our Psyllium Husk Powder over the years. We appreciate your kind words about our customer service. Looking forward to serving you in the future!
I have ME/CFS, including dysfunction of most of my autonomic nervous system. I’ve used psyllium husk on and off for a while when my **** was bad. I read about physllium husk helping gut bacteria so decided to take it daily. So far so good. I also found I have raised cholesterol so am waiting to see if it helps with that. I take a heaped teaspoon with a heaped teaspoon of organic cocao in 500ml water. I use a shaker with metal ball whisk, no clumping. I follow up with another 500ml water in the same shaker, this can be taken slowly but the husk gels if left to long so I down that. I drink it instead of my morning coffee. It’s not a yummy taste but it’s ok, especially if it’s improving my health. I’m not missing my caffeine.

Good product well packaged would recommend
I was advised to start taking psyllium husk powder to help regulate my bowels. I dissolve it in water - takes some stirring but does mix, doesn't taste too bad and really helps my system. Have used Natural Health Market psyllium husk on and off over the years and always been a good product.
I have been thinking about trying psyllium husk for a while but unsure whether it would help. Mainly bought due to irregular **** movements and bloating and after a few days I can say it has worked brilliantly and I already feel much better for it, excited to see how it improves and helps with my digestion with longer term use.
My dad and I have used this product for the second time and honestly we do not know ourselves. We both have digestive problems and this has definitely helped our day-to day lives. Thank you.
This tasted absolutely disgusting. I didn't find it helped digestive transit at all, rather the opposite.
This organic psyllium husk is excellent and works so well for digestion and regular **** movements. The packaging is always wonderful and you get a free teabag every time you place an order which I think is wonderful.
Pleased with purchase arrived quickly well packed and a good price, would buy again
I initially bought this to add to my muesli to help with digestive issues but found that it is a game changer for use in baking gluten free bread. Without psyllium husk, GF bread has the texture of cake.
Always happy with quick delivery time from the Natural Health Market and their very good prices.
Thank you for your great review! We’re so pleased to hear how versatile you’ve found the psyllium husk — it really is a fantastic ingredient. You’re absolutely right that it can make a huge difference to the texture of gluten-free baking, especially bread, while also being a popular choice for digestive support.
It’s lovely to hear you’re happy with our prices and delivery too. Thank you for choosing The Natural Health Market and for sharing such a helpful tip with other customers!
Kind wishes,

Very good for digestive problems. I’ve found this product is a game changer. Would highly recommend it.
I like this psyllium husk and have been using it for some time. I value that it is organic and that the price is way lower than other brands. It took me some time to get a hang of how to dissolve it properly, so it does not make lumps but it works perfectly for my **** when needed. Deliveries are always efficient too
Thank you for your kind words and for choosing our Organic Psyllium Husk Powder! We're delighted to hear that you've been enjoying it and that the price and organic aspect have been beneficial for you. We're glad you were able to find a way to dissolve it properly and that it's been working well for your wellbeing. We appreciate your continued support!
I bought this as an alternative to the commercial, processed product. Aspartane? Artificial flavours? Better not.
However, you also lose the 'mix and forget' that the prepared powders offer. Mixing this is definitely more art than science.
However, I'm willing to put up with the extra bother due to the (hopefully) certified credentials of the powder (soil association, etc).
Delivery and packaging of the product: definitely five stars
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our Organic Psyllium Husk Powder. We're glad to hear that it did the job for you. We understand that it may be tougher to mix compared to processed products, but we assure you that it's worth it for the certified credentials and lack of artificial ingredients. We have a blog post about the best ways to mix it. We appreciate your support and hope to continue providing you with quality products. Have a great day!

Bought to add to baking and I’m very pleased with the quality. The last time I had Psyllium was around 10 years ago. I had a painful gut reaction and was scared off. No bad reaction with this, just a reminder to drink loads and keep up with my veggies!
Thank you for the thoughtful review!
We’re really glad to hear the psyllium husk has been a positive experience this time around — and you’re absolutely right, staying hydrated and balancing it with plenty of veg is a smart move!

The recipe that I decided to make was for a loaf, which required Psyllium Husk Powder, which I'd never heard of, but found it on The Natural Health Market's website, and it was delivered very quickly, and well packaged.
The recipe is My New Roots' Life- Changing Loaf of Bread. Nothing like a typical loaf, but very interesting!
Thank you for your lovely review!
We’re so pleased to hear your psyllium husk powder arrived quickly and safely — and that it’s helping you follow the Zoe Programme. That Life-Changing Loaf of Bread recipe is a real favourite among our customers!
Thanks again for choosing us, and we’re here whenever you need a top-up.
I have been taking psyllium husk powder for some time and this is by far the best quality product. The husk is very finely ground meaning you require less. It mixes rapidly in the milk with my breakfast cereal and is not unpleasant in any way. Psyllium husk has certainly helped me with reducing b***l discomfort. I can thoroughly recommend it.
Thank you so much for your wonderful and thoughtful review! We’re absolutely delighted to hear you’re so happy with the quality of our psyllium husk powder. We take great care to offer a finely ground product, so it’s lovely to know you’ve noticed the difference in how easily it mixes and how little is needed.
It really means a lot to us that you took the time to share your experience and recommend us — word-of-mouth like this is such a gift to a small family business like ours. Thank you again for your trust and support!
Warmest wishes,
I’ve started a low acid diet as I have a hi***s her**a, stomach ul*** ( had H-***ori inf***ion) and general ga***itis. This supplement was recommended too as part of the diet, so I’ve started taking it twice a day either in my smoothie or in a large glass of water.
It’s early days so can’t say it’s life changing yet, but I think this is part of a long term strategy as my stomach problems didn’t happen overnight either. I built up from half a teaspoon to a teaspoon and it’s certainly not making anything worse, and many food and drinks do ( all the nice things, chocolate, wine, bread, anything with uncooked fruit and veg, tomatoes … the list just goes on!)
It supposed to help with bo*** movements and coating the dig****ve tract which protects it from the acid damage to allow it to heal.
It’s hard to mix, as expected with this product, so I either use my nutribullet or hand held frothier and that helps.
Delivery was quick, I like the no plastic packing and company themselves seem caring and ethical. I’d buy from them again.
