Organic Psyllium Husk Capsules — 650mg | Pure Plantago ovata

Our Organic Psyllium Husk Capsules contain a single ingredient: certified organic psyllium husk powder (Plantago ovata), sourced from India and encapsulated at our family-run facility in Leicestershire. Also known as isabgol or ispaghula, psyllium husk is one of the world’s most widely used natural fibre sources. Each capsule delivers 650mg of pure organic husk — nothing else added, no fillers, no binders, no flowing agents. Soil Association certified, plastic-free, and made in small batches by our small team.

What’s inside — and what isn’t

Two ingredients. That’s the complete list.

  • Organic Psyllium Husk Powder (Plantago ovata) — 650mg per capsule
  • Capsule shell: Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC)

No magnesium stearate. No silicon dioxide. No fillers of any kind.

The capsule shell is HPMC — a plant-derived cellulose, entirely free from gelatine and suitable for vegans.

What is psyllium husk?

Psyllium husk is the thin outer layer of the Plantago ovata seed — a plant native to the Indian subcontinent, where it is widely known as isabgol or ispaghula. India is the world’s leading producer, and the growing conditions of Gujarat in particular produce husk with a consistently high fibre content. Our capsules deliver it in its simplest form — certified organic, finely milled, and encapsulated with no excipients of any kind.

Why choose ours?

  • 650mg pure psyllium husk per capsule. A meaningful amount per capsule with no dilution from fillers — up to 2,600mg at the full four-capsule daily dose.
  • Soil Association certified organic. Sourced from certified organic farms in India, independently audited to the UK’s most rigorous organic standard.
  • Completely additive-free. No flowing agents, no binders, no anti-caking agents — psyllium husk powder and an HPMC shell, nothing else.
  • Independently tested. Each batch is tested for heavy metals and ethylene oxide (ETO) residues — both confirmed not detectable in our most recent testing.
  • Made in-house in Leicestershire. Encapsulated and packed by our small family team in a SALSA-approved facility — not outsourced.
  • Vegan HPMC capsule shell. Plant-derived cellulose, no gelatine, suitable for all diets.
  • Plastic-free packaging. Reusable aluminium tin or 100% paper refill pouch — both kerbside recyclable.

How to take them

Take 2 to 4 capsules daily with a large glass of water, ideally with food. You can take them together or split across the day. Always follow with a full glass of water — psyllium absorbs liquid and needs adequate hydration to work as intended. Take separately from any prescription medication as psyllium may affect absorption — allow at least two hours between psyllium and any medication. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake of four capsules.

Frequently asked questions

What is psyllium husk — and what is isabgol or ispaghula?

Psyllium husk comes from the outer layer of Plantago ovata seeds. In India and across South Asia it is commonly known as isabgol; in pharmacy it is often called ispaghula husk. These are all names for the same ingredient. Our capsules use certified organic psyllium husk sourced from India, where the plant has been cultivated and used traditionally for generations.

How much psyllium husk is in each capsule?

Each capsule contains 650mg of certified organic psyllium husk powder. The daily dose ranges from 1,300mg (2 capsules) to 2,600mg (4 capsules) depending on which size you choose. Each pot is a 30-day supply at its intended dose: 60 capsules at 2 per day, 90 at 3, and 120 at 4.

Which size should I buy?

If you are new to psyllium, the 60-capsule size at two capsules a day is a gentle starting point for a full month. The 90-capsule size suits a moderate daily intake; the 120-capsule size is the full-dose option and the best value per capsule.

Are psyllium capsules easier to take than the powder?

Many people find capsules more convenient — there is no mixing, no clumping, and no measuring. The trade-off is a lower daily amount compared to a heaped teaspoon of powder. If you want a higher daily intake of psyllium, the powder format may be more practical. We sell both.

Are these capsules vegan?

Yes. The shells are made from HPMC (Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose), a plant-derived cellulose. There is no gelatine and no animal-derived ingredient anywhere in the product.

Are these psyllium capsules gluten-free?

Psyllium husk is a naturally gluten-free botanical ingredient, and we do not handle gluten on our premises. However, we do not sell this product with a gluten-free claim. As a small producer we do not independently test our packed product for gluten, and we cannot rule out the possibility of trace contamination somewhere in the supply chain. If you have coeliac disease or a serious gluten intolerance, please seek advice from your GP or dietitian before use.

Where are these capsules made?

The psyllium husk is sourced from India. It is then encapsulated and packed by our family-run team in Leicestershire, UK, in a SALSA-approved production facility.

What’s the difference between the tin and the pouch?

The reusable aluminium tin is solid, resealable, and built to last. The 100% paper refill pouch contains exactly the same product — it is letterbox-friendly and designed to be decanted into your tin once empty. Both are plastic-free and kerbside recyclable.

Has this psyllium been tested for heavy metals and ETO?

Yes. We test each batch for heavy metals and for ethylene oxide (ETO) residues. Our most recent testing confirmed both are not detectable above the limit of quantification, and the product complies fully with EU Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 on maximum residue levels.

How should I store these capsules?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the tin or pouch sealed between uses. Avoid humid environments such as bathrooms.
