Organic Psyllium Husk Capsules — 650mg | Pure Plantago ovata

Our Organic Psyllium Husk Capsules contain a single ingredient: certified organic psyllium husk powder (Plantago ovata), sourced from India and encapsulated at our family-run facility in Leicestershire. Also known as isabgol or ispaghula, psyllium husk is one of the world's most widely used natural fibre sources. Each capsule delivers 650mg of pure organic husk — nothing else added, no fillers, no binders, no flowing agents. Soil Association certified, plastic-free, and made in small batches by our small team.

What's inside — and what isn't

Two ingredients. That's the complete list.

  • Organic Psyllium Husk Powder (Plantago ovata) — 650 mg per capsule
  • Capsule shell: Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC)

No magnesium stearate. No silicon dioxide. No fillers of any kind.

The capsule shell is HPMC — a plant-derived cellulose, entirely free from gelatine and suitable for vegans.

What is psyllium husk?

Psyllium husk is the thin outer layer of the Plantago ovata seed — a plant native to the Indian subcontinent, where it is widely known as isabgol or ispaghula. India is the world's leading producer, and the growing conditions in Gujarat, in particular, produce husk with a consistently high fibre content. Our capsules deliver it in its simplest form — certified organic, finely milled, and encapsulated with no excipients.

Why choose ours?

  • 650mg pure psyllium husk per capsule. A meaningful amount per capsule with no dilution from fillers — up to 2,600mg at the full four-capsule daily dose.
  • Soil Association certified organic. Sourced from certified organic farms in India, independently audited to the UK's most rigorous organic standard.
  • Completely additive-free. No flowing agents, no binders, no anti-caking agents — psyllium husk powder and an HPMC shell, nothing else.
  • Independently tested. Each batch is tested for heavy metals and ethylene oxide (ETO) residues — both confirmed not detectable in our most recent testing.
  • Made in-house in Leicestershire. Encapsulated and packed by our small family team in a SALSA-approved facility — not outsourced.
  • Vegan HPMC capsule shell—plant-derived cellulose, no gelatine, suitable for all diets.
  • Plastic-free packaging. Reusable aluminium tin or 100% paper refill pouch — both kerbside recyclable.

How to take them

Take 2 to 4 capsules daily with a large glass of water, ideally with food. You can take them together or split across the day. Always follow with a full glass of water — psyllium absorbs liquid and needs adequate hydration to work as intended. If you're new to psyllium or increasing your fibre intake generally, start at the lower end (2 capsules) and build up gradually rather than starting at the maximum — taking on fibre too quickly without enough water is the most common reason people find psyllium uncomfortable. Take separately from any prescription medication as psyllium may affect absorption — allow at least two hours between psyllium and any medication. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake of four capsules.

Frequently asked questions

What is psyllium husk — and what is isabgol or ispaghula?

Psyllium husk comes from the outer layer of Plantago ovata seeds. In India and across South Asia, it is commonly known as isabgol; in pharmacy, it is often called ispaghula husk. These are all names for the same ingredient. Our capsules use certified organic psyllium husk sourced from India, where the plant has been cultivated and used traditionally for generations.

How much psyllium husk is in each capsule?

Each capsule contains 650mg of certified organic psyllium husk powder. The daily dose ranges from 1,300mg (2 capsules) to 2,600mg (4 capsules) depending on which size you choose. Each pot is a 30-day supply at its intended dose: 60 capsules at 2 per day, 90 at 3, and 120 at 4.

Which size should I buy?

If you are new to psyllium, the 60-capsule size at two capsules a day is a gentle starting point for a full month. The 90-capsule size suits a moderate daily intake; the 120-capsule size is the full-dose option and the best value per capsule.

Are these capsules or tablets?

Capsules — a two-piece HPMC shell filled with psyllium husk powder, not a compressed tablet. They're often searched for as "psyllium husk tablets," but ours are capsules: same single ingredient inside, just a different format.

Are psyllium capsules easier to take than the powder?

Many people find capsules more convenient — there is no mixing, no clumping, and no measuring. The trade-off is a lower daily amount compared to a heaped teaspoon of powder. If you want a higher daily psyllium intake, our Organic Psyllium Husk Powder may be a more practical option. We sell both.

What is "fibermaxxing," and do these fit into it?

Fibermaxxing is the name that's grown up online for deliberately increasing daily fibre intake, and psyllium husk is one of the ingredients people reach for to do it. These capsules are a convenient way to do that without mixing a powder — but the same caution applies: increase gradually and drink plenty of water. The most common issue people report isn't from psyllium itself; it's from adding too much too fast without enough water. For anything beyond general dietary guidance, speak to your GP or a dietitian.

Are these capsules vegan?

Yes. The shells are made from HPMC (Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose), a plant-derived cellulose. There is no gelatine or any animal-derived ingredients in the product.

Are these psyllium capsules gluten-free?

Psyllium husk is a naturally gluten-free botanical ingredient, and we do not handle gluten on our premises. However, we do not sell this product with a gluten-free claim. As a small producer, we do not independently test our packaged product for gluten, and we cannot rule out trace contamination at any point in the supply chain. If you have coeliac disease or a serious gluten intolerance, please seek advice from your GP or dietitian before use.

Where are these capsules made?

The psyllium husk is sourced from India. It is then encapsulated and packed by our family-run team in Leicestershire, UK, in a SALSA-approved production facility.

What's the difference between the tin and the pouch?

The reusable aluminium tin is solid, resealable, and built to last. The 100% paper refill pouch contains the same product — it is letterbox-friendly and designed to be decanted into your tin once empty. Both are plastic-free and kerbside recyclable.

Has this psyllium been tested for heavy metals and ETO?

Yes. We test each batch for heavy metals and for ethylene oxide (ETO) residues. Our most recent testing confirmed that neither is detectable above the limit of quantification and that the product fully complies with EU Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 on maximum residue levels.

How should I store these capsules?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the tin or pouch sealed between uses. Avoid humid environments such as bathrooms.

Want a higher daily amount, or prefer mixing your own dose? Our Organic Psyllium Husk Powder contains the same organic psyllium husk, finely milled to a 60-mesh grade — ideal for drinks, smoothies, and baking.

Certified organic. Additive-free. Made in Britain.

Pure organic psyllium husk in a plant-based capsule — two ingredients, nothing added, independently tested, and made by our small family team in Leicestershire. The convenient alternative to the powder, with no compromise on quality.

Great product

Very handy to use when travelling (which is why I bought it) although I use the powder on a day to day basis which I prefer as I like to measure out how much I’m having. I cannot recommend this enough. I started using this a few months ago, together with upping my fibre intake through whole foods. As a perimenopausal 45 year old suffering with bloating, water retention and weight gain round my middle, these two simple lifestyle changes have made me feel better in every way!

Hi Sarah,

Thank you so much for sharing your positive experience! We're delighted to hear our capsules are helping you feel better. Wishing you continued health and well-being!

Thank you for your support,

So happy with this product

I have no large b***l and take two psyllium husk capsules about 30-45 minutes before each meal to slow down the transit of food through my gut. The price and quality of this product are great and the speed of delivery is too.

Hi, I just want to verify the information your company provided on a psyllium husk supplement which is in capsule 650mg form. On the provided container, it says take up to 3 capsules but on your website, it indicates 4. Could you clarify on this? Tnx

The Natural Health Market

Thank you for your question. I’m sorry for the confusion between the label and the website. The guidance we share is a suggested use, and you can adjust the intake to what feels right for you. For psyllium husk capsules, up to 4 per day is suitable.

We’ll be updating the container label so everything matches correctly. Apologies again for the mix-up, and thank you for bringing it to our attention. 🌿

Will this help my 13 year old to go to the toilet so we don't need to use man-made laxatives.

Will this help my 13 year old to go to the toilet so we don't need to use man-made laxatives

The Natural Health Market

Thank you so much for your message and for your interest in our Organic Psyllium Husk Capsules 🌿

We’re really glad you’re exploring natural options, especially for your child. However, as a food company, we’re not able to offer medical advice or suggest that our products can treat or replace medicines like laxatives. Psyllium husk is traditionally used as a natural source of soluble fibre, and many people include it in their diet to support healthy digestion — but whether it’s suitable for your 13-year-old is something we’d recommend discussing with your GP or pharmacist.

If you’d like to know more about how we source and produce our psyllium, or about the ingredients and packaging, I’d be more than happy to help.

What are the nutrition figures per capsule? Specifically the fibre?

The Natural Health Market

Thanks so much for your question!

Each of our Organic Psyllium Husk Capsules contains 650mg of pure psyllium husk powder. Psyllium husk is incredibly rich in fibre — typically containing around 85–95% fibre by weight, of which about 70% is soluble and 30% insoluble.

So, per capsule, you’re getting approximately:
• 550–600mg of total dietary fibre,
of which around
• 400–450mg is soluble fibre
• 150–180mg is insoluble fibre

This makes psyllium an excellent, natural way to boost your fibre intake gently and gradually.

Let us know if you’d like the figures for higher daily serving amounts or more general usage info — we’re always happy to help.

Once you start taking the tablets how long do you need to take for please

The Natural Health Market

Thanks so much for your question!

As psyllium husk is a natural source of pure fibre, how long to take it can vary from person to person, depending on individual needs and dietary habits. Some people use it occasionally, while others take it daily as part of their regular routine.

For many people, you may notice things starting to get moving after just a few days of consistent use — but this can vary. One important thing to remember is that hydration is key when taking fibre supplements like psyllium. It absorbs water in the digestive tract, so it’s really important to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day — otherwise, it can sometimes have the opposite effect.

If you’re ever unsure about how long to take any supplement for your own situation, it’s always a good idea to speak with a qualified health professional.

We hope this helps, and we’re always happy to answer any other questions!

Warm wishes,
-X-
