Organic Ginger Loose Tea — 100% Pure Ginger Root | Finely Chopped

Most ginger teas are blends — ginger diluted with licorice root, lemongrass, or other botanicals. Ours is not. Our Organic Ginger Loose Tea is a single ingredient: certified organic ginger root (Zingiber officinale), sourced from India, finely chopped and ready to brew. The same pure ginger as our temple bag version — supplied loose for those who prefer to brew on their own terms. Soil Association certified, naturally caffeine-free, and packed by our small family team in Leicestershire.

About the ginger

Our ginger root comes from India — the world’s largest producer and the origin with the longest history of documented traditional use of Zingiber officinale. The root is harvested, air-dried, and finely chopped to a consistent cut that steeps quickly and evenly in hot water. Finely chopped ginger brews faster and with more consistent strength than coarser cuts, and it sits well in a standard tea infuser or strainer without escaping. The result is a strong, clean, unapologetically spicy ginger tea — with nothing to soften or dilute it.

Ways to use it

  • Classic hot brew — add one teaspoon to an infuser or teapot, pour over freshly boiled water, steep for 3–5 minutes; leave longer for a more intense, spicier cup
  • Iced ginger tea — brew as normal with boiling water, allow to cool for a few minutes, then pour directly over a glass full of ice; add a squeeze of lemon or a little honey to taste
  • Blending — combines beautifully with loose hibiscus, lemongrass, or peppermint for a custom blend; ginger adds warmth and spice to any combination
  • Ginger decoction — for a more intense brew, simmer a tablespoon of chopped ginger in water for 10 minutes rather than steeping; produces a deeply warming, medicinal-style drink
  • In cooking — use a pinch to add a subtle ginger note to soups, broths, or marinades

Why choose ours?

  • 100% pure ginger root — not a blend. No licorice root, no lemongrass, no black pepper, no other botanical. The only ingredient is certified organic ginger root (Zingiber officinale).
  • The same ginger as our tea bags. Identical source and specification — supplied loose for flexible brewing and blending.
  • Soil Association certified organic. Sourced from certified organic farms in India, independently audited every year.
  • Finely chopped for even, fast steeping. Releases its full flavour quickly and sits well in a standard infuser without escaping through the mesh.
  • Strong and genuinely spicy. Pure ginger root with nothing to dilute it — noticeably more intense than blended ginger teas.
  • Naturally caffeine-free. Pure ginger root contains no caffeine — suitable any time of day, including evenings.
  • Packed in small batches in Leicestershire. By our family-run team in a SALSA-approved facility.
  • Vegan and vegetarian. No animal-derived ingredients anywhere in the product or packaging.

How to brew

Hot: Add one heaped teaspoon of chopped ginger to an infuser, strainer, or teapot. Pour over freshly boiled water and steep for 3–5 minutes for a warming, spicy cup — or leave longer for a more intense brew. The longer it steeps, the more heat you’ll get. Add a slice of fresh lemon or a small amount of honey if you like; both complement the ginger without masking it.

Iced: Brew as normal with boiling water. Allow to cool for a few minutes, then pour directly over a glass packed with ice. Add honey, lemon, or fresh mint to taste.

The spent ginger can be composted after brewing.

Frequently asked questions

Is this ginger tea a blend or pure ginger?

Pure ginger — one ingredient. No licorice root, no lemongrass, no black pepper, no citrus peel, no other botanical. Every pouch contains only certified organic ginger root (Zingiber officinale), finely chopped.

What is the difference between ginger loose tea and ginger tea bags?

The ginger is identical — same certified organic source, same specification. The difference is format. Loose tea lets you adjust the amount you use, brew in a teapot or infuser of your choice, and blend with other loose herbs. Tea bags offer a fixed, convenient dose with no measuring. Both produce the same strong, pure ginger brew.

What does pure ginger loose tea taste like?

Strong, spicy, and warming — with a sharp, clean ginger heat that builds as it steeps. Noticeably more intense than most blended ginger teas where ginger shares the cup with other botanicals. A touch of honey softens the edge without losing the character.

How much ginger should I use per cup?

One heaped teaspoon per cup is a good starting point. Use more for a stronger brew, less for something milder. The finely chopped cut means it steeps quickly — taste at 3 minutes and adjust steeping time to your preference.

Is ginger loose tea caffeine-free?

Yes. Ginger root contains no caffeine. This tea is naturally caffeine-free and suitable at any time of day, including before bed.

Can I blend this ginger with other loose herbs?

Yes — ginger works particularly well blended with loose hibiscus (for a tart, spiced combination), lemongrass (for a citrusy warmth), or peppermint (for a cooling heat contrast). Start with a small amount of ginger as it is strong, and adjust the ratio to taste.

Where is this ginger sourced?

Our ginger root is sourced from India — the world’s largest producer of Zingiber officinale and the origin with the longest history of traditional use of the plant.

How should I store ginger loose tea?

Keep in the sealed pouch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong smells. Once opened, reseal tightly after each use. Dried ginger stores well; just keep it away from heat and moisture to preserve the essential oils that give it its heat and aroma.
