Organic Psyllium Husk Powder — Fine Grade | Ideal for Baking & Daily Fibre

Our Organic Psyllium Husk Powder is made from the husks of Plantago ovata seeds — the plant also known as isabgol or ispaghula — sourced from certified organic farms in India and packed in small batches at our family-run facility in Leicestershire. This is a fine-milled powder, ground to a 60-mesh grade that dissolves smoothly and performs exceptionally well in baking. Soil Association certified organic, single ingredient, nothing added.

About psyllium husk powder

Plantago ovata — known as isabgol in India and ispaghula in pharmacy — is a plant native to the Indian subcontinent and one of the world’s most widely used natural fibre sources. The husk is the thin, papery outer layer of the seed, and it is from this husk that psyllium powder is made. India is the world’s leading producer and exporter of psyllium husk, accounting for the majority of global supply — the growing conditions of Gujarat in particular produce husk with a consistently high fibre content and swell volume. Our powder is finely milled to a 60-mesh grade, giving it a smooth, even texture that blends more cleanly than coarser whole or flaked husk.

Which size is right for you?

Size Approximate servings Best for
50g ~10 servings Trying for the first time
100g ~20 servings Regular use / 3–4 weeks
200g ~40 servings Daily use / 6–8 weeks
400g ~80 servings Regular daily use / best value

Ways to use it

  • In water or juice — a quick daily fibre boost mixed into any cold drink
  • In smoothies — adds body and fibre without affecting flavour
  • In baking — use as a binder, egg substitute, or texture improver in breads, flatbreads, and crackers; the fine powder grade blends more evenly than whole husk
  • In keto and low-carb recipes — a widely used ingredient in keto baking to improve dough structure without adding carbohydrates
  • In porridge or yoghurt — stir in a teaspoon to add fibre to a meal without changing the flavour
  • As a thickener — use sparingly in soups or sauces where extra body is needed

Why choose ours?

  • Soil Association certified organic. Sourced from certified organic farms in India — independently audited to the UK’s most rigorous organic standard.
  • Fine 60-mesh powder grade. Finer than whole husk or flaked husk — blends more evenly in drinks and performs better in baking recipes that need a smooth, consistent texture.
  • Independently tested. Each batch is tested for heavy metals and ethylene oxide (ETO) residues — both confirmed not detectable in our most recent testing.
  • Single ingredient, nothing added. 100% psyllium husk powder — no fillers, no binders, no flowing agents.
  • Non-GMO and non-irradiated. Clean sourcing throughout.
  • Packed in small batches in Leicestershire. By our family-run team in a SALSA-approved facility.

How to mix psyllium husk powder in a drink

Psyllium husk powder absorbs liquid very quickly and will clump if added directly to a full glass of water. For a smooth result, follow this method:

  1. Add one teaspoon (approximately 5g) of psyllium husk powder to an empty glass first.
  2. Add a small splash of water — just enough to wet the powder — and stir or swirl quickly to form an even paste.
  3. Once the paste is smooth with no dry lumps, fill the glass with 250–300ml of water, juice, or your drink of choice.
  4. Stir well and drink immediately — psyllium thickens quickly as it absorbs liquid.
  5. Follow with a second glass of water.

A typical serving is one to two teaspoons (5–10g) per day. Take separately from any prescription medication as psyllium may affect absorption — allow at least two hours between psyllium and any medication.

Packaging

Supplied in a kraft paper pouch with a PE inner lining to preserve freshness. The pouch can be recycled via supermarket soft-plastic collection points (widely available in major UK supermarkets). Kerbside recyclability for this pouch format is expected from mid-2027 as UK kerbside collection infrastructure catches up with mono-material flexible packaging. We’re working toward fully kerbside recyclable packaging across our entire range.

Frequently asked questions

What is psyllium husk powder — and what is isabgol?

Psyllium husk powder is made from the outer husks of Plantago ovata seeds. In India and across South Asia it is commonly called isabgol or ispaghula — these are different names for the same plant and the same ingredient. Our powder is sourced from India, where psyllium has been cultivated and used traditionally for generations.

What is the difference between psyllium husk powder and whole psyllium husk?

Whole psyllium husk is the complete outer husk of the seed, typically coarser and flakier. Psyllium husk powder is the same material ground into a fine powder. The powder mixes more smoothly in drinks and performs better in baking recipes — particularly where a consistent, even texture matters, such as in breads or flatbreads.

What is the best way to take psyllium husk powder?

Mix the powder into a paste first before adding a full glass of liquid — this prevents clumping. Add one teaspoon to an empty glass, add a small splash of water, stir to a smooth paste, then fill the glass with 250–300ml of water or juice and drink immediately. See the full method above. Never swallow psyllium dry.

Can I use psyllium husk powder for baking?

Yes — it is widely used in baking as a binder and structure agent. A small amount (typically 1–2 teaspoons per loaf) helps hold dough together, improves texture, and prevents crumbling. The fine powder grade works better than coarser whole husk in most baking applications.

Is psyllium husk powder gluten-free?

Psyllium husk is a naturally gluten-free botanical ingredient, and we do not handle gluten on our premises. However, we do not sell this product with a gluten-free claim. As a small producer we do not independently test our packed product for gluten, and we cannot rule out the possibility of trace contamination somewhere in the supply chain. If you have coeliac disease or a serious gluten intolerance, please seek advice from your GP or dietitian before use.

Is psyllium husk powder good for you?

Psyllium husk is a natural source of dietary fibre and has a long history of traditional use across many cultures. We do not make specific health claims — if you are looking for guidance on whether psyllium is right for your circumstances, a GP or qualified nutritional therapist is the best person to advise.

When should I take psyllium husk?

It can be taken at any time of day — before a meal, with a meal, or between meals. Many people take it in the morning. The most important thing is to always take it with a generous amount of water and to keep well hydrated throughout the day.

Is it safe to take psyllium husk every day?

Psyllium husk has been used daily as a fibre supplement for many generations and is generally considered well tolerated. If you have a pre-existing digestive condition, are taking prescription medication, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your GP before use. Always take with sufficient water and do not take dry.

Has this psyllium been tested for heavy metals and ETO?

Yes. We test each batch for heavy metals and for ethylene oxide (ETO) residues. Our most recent testing confirmed both are not detectable above the limit of quantification, and the product complies fully with EU Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 on maximum residue levels.

How should I store psyllium husk powder?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the pouch sealed tightly between uses. Avoid humid environments. Best used within six months of opening.
