Organic Lemongrass Tea Bags — 100% Pure Egyptian Cymbopogon citratus
Our Organic Lemongrass Tea Bags are made from a single ingredient: whole dried lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), sourced from Egypt and packed into plastic-free temple bags by our small family team in Leicestershire. Egyptian lemongrass is grown in a climate that concentrates the plant's natural essential oils, giving the brewed tea a clean, vivid citrus character without any added flavouring or blending. Naturally caffeine-free, Soil Association certified organic, and entirely free of plastic — in the bag and in the packaging.
About the lemongrass
Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) is a tropical grass cultivated widely across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East for its fresh citrus aroma and clean flavour. The essential oil responsible for its characteristic lemon note — citral — is present in higher concentrations in lemongrass grown in Egypt's dry, sun-drenched climate, making Egyptian-origin material the preferred choice for flavour intensity. Unlike most lemongrass teas on the market — which are blends that combine lemongrass with lemon peel, lemon verbena, or other botanicals to amplify the citrus character — ours is a pure single-ingredient infusion. The citrus brightness in the cup comes entirely from the plant itself.

Why choose ours?
- Egyptian Cymbopogon citratus — pure single origin. Sourced specifically for essential oil intensity. No blending, no added lemon peel, no flavourings — the citrus character comes entirely from the plant.
- Soil Association certified organic. Every batch independently audited to the UK's most rigorous organic standard.
- Fully plastic-free temple bags. PLA biodegradable filter mesh — not the nylon or polypropylene used in most pyramid-style bags. The outer pouch is 100% paper with no foil lining. Nothing plastic anywhere in the product or packaging.
- Naturally caffeine-free. Cymbopogon citratus contains no caffeine—suitable any time of day, including evenings.
- Wonderful hot or iced. The essential oil character holds well over ice — a refreshing cold drink as well as a warming cup.
- Packed in Leicestershire by our small family team. Not at a large contract facility — we pack everything in small batches in-house.
- Vegan and vegetarian. One ingredient: dried lemongrass. Nothing else.
How to brew — hot or iced
Hot: Place one temple bag in a mug and pour over freshly boiled water. Steep for 5–8 minutes for a clean, aromatic infusion. The flavour intensifies with longer steeping without turning bitter — lemongrass does not astringent the way green tea or black tea does. A small amount of honey or a slice of fresh ginger complements it well if you prefer a rounder flavour.
Iced lemongrass tea: Steep one or two temple bags in freshly boiled water in a heatproof jug for 5 minutes, then pour directly over a glass filled with ice. The citrus character comes through clearly even when cold, making this an excellent warm-weather drink. Add honey or a wedge of lime to taste.
Each temple bag can be resteeped once for a lighter second cup.

Frequently asked questions
Is lemongrass tea caffeine-free?
Yes. Cymbopogon citratus is a grass, not a tea plant — it contains no caffeine whatsoever. This infusion is completely caffeine-free and suitable at any time of day, including before bed.
What does lemongrass tea taste like?
Clean, bright, and citrusy — with a fresh lemon character that comes from the plant's natural citral content rather than added flavouring. There is no bitterness and no grassiness when brewed correctly. Lighter than lemon verbena, less sweet than lemon balm — a straightforward, refreshing herbal cup that works well both hot and iced.
Is lemongrass tea the same as lemongrass and ginger tea?
No. Our lemongrass tea bags contain a single ingredient — pure Cymbopogon citratus. We also sell a separate Organic Ginger & Lemongrass blend for those who prefer a spicier, more warming cup. If you want pure lemongrass flavour without ginger, this is the one.
Are the temple bags plastic-free?
Yes. The temple bags use a PLA (polylactic acid) biodegradable filter mesh — not the nylon or polypropylene used in most pyramid-style bags. The outer pouch is 100% paper, with no foil lining or plastic film. Kerbside recyclable. No plastic anywhere in the product or packaging.
Where does your lemongrass come from?
Egypt. We source Cymbopogon citratus from Egyptian growing regions, where the dry climate produces lemongrass with a high natural essential oil content. This quality signal gives the brewed tea its bright citrus character. All batches are Soil Association certified organic.
Where is this lemongrass tea made?
The lemongrass is sourced from Egypt. It is then packed into temple bags and pouched by our small family team in Leicestershire, UK.
How should I store lemongrass tea bags?
Keep in the sealed paper pouch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong smells. Once opened, fold the top of the pouch down firmly. Lemongrass holds its essential oils well when kept airtight — keep it away from heat and humidity.
