What Is Cacao Powder?
Raw cacao powder is made from the ground Theobroma Cacao bean; cocoa is a misspelling of cacao. The Theobroma cacao tree is native to South America and South-East Asia – our cacao is sourced from South America, as the quality is better than South East Asian cocoa.
The Theobroma tree produces a fruit called cacao pods, and within each is up to 60 beans. This is the cacao we use in our organic cacao capsules; these cacao beans are micro-milled to produce cacao powder. As well as being consumed raw, cacao beans are also used to make a wide range of products, including, of course, chocolate!
High Antioxidant Levels Of Cacao Capsules
The exact antioxidant profile of cacao depends on where and how it was grown; that’s why it’s essential to buy high-quality cacao from certified organic growers. The scale for measuring antioxidant levels in food is called the ORAC score or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, and cacao scores very highly, way above cranberries and ginger roots.
