Ginkgo Biloba The Spiritual Drink
Ginkgo, known as the ginkgo or maidenhair tree, is native to China. Gingko can be found in fossils dating back over 250 million years in China. This thick, towering tree has tremendous spiritual importance across Asia, symbolising longevity and enlightenment. The name ‘ginkgo’ comes from a misspelling of the Japanese word ‘Gin Kyo,’ which means ‘silver apricot’, while a similar, older Chinese name means ‘silver fruit’.
A Traditional Well-Being Herbal Tea
For centuries, ginkgo biloba tea has been a traditional source of nutrition and well-being. In addition, herbalists value ginkgo for various uses, from supporting the immune system to maintaining standard memory. Having been cultivated in China for many centuries, some trees at temples are thought to be more than 1,500 years old.
The tree is magnificent, reaching heights of up to 115ft, with beautiful saffron-yellow autumn leaves. Ginkgo Biloba’s seeds are a celebrated food in China, and its nuts are a delicacy often enjoyed during celebrations such as weddings and New Year. However, the first record of Westerners encountering the tree date back to 1690, at Japanese temple gardens. It is now a popular addition to a balanced, healthy lifestyle worldwide.
